Green tomato chutney

Ingredients

  • 500gram green tomatoes
  • 400gram finely diced red onion
  • 250gram golden raisins
  • 200 gram soft brown sugar
  • 2 red chillies de-seeded and finely diced
  • White wine vinegar x 200ml
  • 1tsp ground mixed spice
  • 1tsp ground ginger

Introduction

Best served with cold roast hams or hard British cheeses.

Method

  1. Simply chop tomatoes keeping all seeds and juices
  2. Add all ingredients to a heavy bottomed saucepan
  3. Bring to simmer stirring frequently
  4. Reduce heat to medium and cook till thickened and syrupy
  5. Store in sterilised jars for up to a month
