Introduction

Lemonade on warm summers day. There is nothing more refreshing.

Method

  1. Carefully remove the skin from the lemons using a potato peeler, leaving only the zest.
  2. If there is any white pith remaining, remove this as it will make the lemonade bitter.
  3. Add sugar to a heavy bottom based pan followed by 500mls of the water and dissolve on a low heat.
  4. Squeeze the juice from the lemons into the pan and add the lemon zest and remaining 500mls of water.
  5. Bring to the boil and immediately turn off heat. Allow to cool.
  6. Pass through a sieve and place in fridge until chilled.
  7. Serve with ice.

Gaynor's Tip: You may find that a little more sugar is needed to suit a child's palate. This lemonade can be frozen into ice cubes to add to the finished drink or simply to water.
