How Mother's Day is celebrated across the world

In every country, Mother's Day is a day to celebrate the motherly figure in our lives, but did you know different countries have different traditions, festivals and weeklong celebrations too? In Peru, Mother's Day is known as Feliz Dia Mama and actually lasts for a whole week, celebrations of gift giving, family get togethers and large feasts - this is one of the most important celebrations in the Peruvian calendar.

In Thailand, the national holiday lands on 12th August, which also happens to be the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. Ceremonies are held all day, with children performing in schools, each child kneels at their mothers feet to show respect and gratitude for everything she has done. Jasmine is usually given as a symbol of traditional, purity and grace.

In the UK, our traditions are a little more low key, showing love and respect for our loved ones usually through spending time together, gift giving and a traditional Sunday Roast.
